Herald Herring!
Prior to my travels throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, all I ever knew about herring was the jarred stuff, pickled with herbs and spices. But to devour fresh herring alongside the canals, with just a few pickles and crackers, and a beer like a local pilsner or refreshing wheat beer—it took those jarred herring slices to another level!
